Time to #detox !! The #Jewish holidays have officially ended. This is a time of year that many of us who observe are overloaded with lots of decadent traditional foods (so much challah, honey smothered everything!!) and meal after meal after meal....this year it was 3x 3 day Yom Tov. And Yom Kippur is just as bad, because you end up eating a lot before the fast and even more at the break fast--so that basically cancels out the 25 hour period in between when you're not eating anything (you probably would eat way less if it weren't for the fast--avoiding the before and afterfast food fest). And then before you know it the Thanksgiving/Christmas/Chanukah season comes creeping up, adding more lbs to what was already gained just a month or so before.
My version of a detox is nothing extreme or ridiculous--it's actually quite normal and easy for anyone to follow and it doesn't cost any money. Basically, pay attention to what you put into your mouth. Don't mindlessly eat. Stay away from high sugar and high fat foods, and load up on high fiber and protein (this is not "low carb", necessarily, just common sense). I find using #myfitnesspal is a great way to keep track, not just my calorie intake, but also to ensure I'm eating enough #fiber and #protein (I like to have 35g of fiber daily and around 80g protein for my weight to retain/build muscle). Detox is not about starving yourself--it's about getting yourself back on track. Measure your portions, don't eat out of a bag, don't skip meals, don't eat cookies as a snack, have a super healthy and filling breakfast to start your day right, drink enough water!! Treat your body like a high end luxury car and feed it with the most quality ingredients so it will perform for you at optimum levels. After a few weeks of "paying attention" you'll look better for sure, but even more importantly, you'll feel better. Our second tutorial on stretching the calves sees us target both the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius. ✔ Picture 1 is targeting the medial head of the gastrocnemius. Set up as if you were going to stretch the gastrocnemius (see previous post!!) but now turn your back foot outwards. ✔ Picture 2 is targeting the lateral head of the gastrocnemius. Set up as if you were going to stretch the gastrocnemius (see previous post!!) but now turn your back foot inwards. 🌟Hold these stretches for 30 seconds to developmentally stretch the muscles and repeat for both legs🌟

Happy Tuesday, insta family! Yesterday turned into a self love day for me, and it was sorely needed. Despite a broken night of sleep, I woke up feeling pretty dang great. Made a breakfast blueberry pancake coffee and chocolate protein powder, and was pleasantly surprised by how well they work together. I've got a full (boring) agenda of cleaning, packing, potty training, and studying on the books today, mostly to make up for my lack thereof yesterday. Gonna wait until I wear down a bit, then get a workout in for the energy boost, and keep going today. Most importantly, I'm not gonna beat myself up when it gets derailed. 🤷🏻♀️ Gotta learn how to let that ish go, ya know?
