You know that hip/knee/shoulder/spine problem you've got that you aren't doing much about? That'll soon become arthritic and damaged for good. That arthritis you then have will mean you can't and won't move as much as you do now. ❗️❗️Anterior hip pain/pinch or inability to or form a deep squat? ❗️❗️ People with these issues are often told to stretch or smash their psaoas, glutes, or piriformis, but those are not the likely culprit. Lack of internal rotation or intrinsic hip dysfunction often presents as groin and anterior hip pain. Most hips are very good at flexion and external rotation. To elicit change in our hips, we need to train the opposite, notably the often overlooked internal rotators. Try this 3 exercise sequence to open up some ROM and build strength in that new ROM to build a neuro connection for a long term change.

🔹Exercise 1 - lateral hip banded distraction with internal rotation. Strap a band at about knee height and place the band high up in your hip. Get on hands and knees and use a KB to place leg in internal rotation. Rock back and fourth in a controlled manner focusing on breathing for 1-2 minutes each side.

🔹Exercise 2 - lunge rotation with internal rotation over pressure. Get in a regular lunge position then use a KB to place your back leg in internal rotation. Rotate towards you back leg until you feel a stopping point. Stay at end range and take a large breath in then out. On the breath out, try to get more rotation. Perform 5-10 good quality reps each side

🔹Exercise 3 - 90/90 position internal rotation lift offs. In a 90/90 position, rotate toward the back leg (leg in internal rotation). Push your back foot into the ground at around 75% of your max effort for 5-10 seconds then contract every muscle in your body and lift off your foot off the ground for 5-10 seconds. Repeat this for 5-10 quality reps.

So what to do after stretching the shoulder and increasing ROM with PAILs and RAILs? Well you have control that range range. Here is an exercise I love requiring absolutely no equipment, although if possible holding something such as a lacrosse ball or tennis ball helps.

Here I start by laying on my side making sure I don't compensate with my thoracic spine, then I do some very slow intense (look at my face struggling this video is sped up 2x) sidelying shoulder CARS. One think I love about performing these in sidelying is the assistance of gravity it helps "cut the angle" because gravity is pushing ⬇️ on your arm. I did about 5 tough reps of these after the exercise I posted yesterday to help control my newly acquired ROM.

A little late getting this up, but today's tip Tuesday is all about the micros! Micro nutrients are so important for your body and for your body to have the right amounts of. They help your body function as it should no matter whether you are a seasoned athlete or the most movement you do through the day is get up from your desk to go to the bathroom!

If you tuned into my insta story this afternoon you know that I had a very busy day. Along with that very busy day, my joints and muscles took a beating within the last couple of days. It was between moving #3 & #4 limestone (for those of you that don't know what size that is you can make a fist and those stones are about that size sometimes larger), walking across (my shoes are terrible) and wheeling that Limestone. As well as taking down a foundation wall a little bit by a sledgehammer.

Even though a machine did the majority of the work, I still had to deal with the little bit of manual labor like shoveling, wheeling, or using a sledgehammer in order to pound out cinder blocks or move stone. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every minute of being able to smash cinder blocks with a sledgehammer 😁. It's definitely a stress reliever. However, all of those movements and constant pounding on your joints take a toll on the joint itself and the muscles and ligaments that help make the joint stable.

I was taking a supplement called Joint mobility and with Joint Mobility I had no pain or achiness in my joints whatsoever. After a while, my mistake 😔, just like, possibly, any other person would do once something doesn't hurt after a while, you stop taking whatever you use or make it feel better. This is not a good idea, especially with a supplement that is supposed to aid in keeping a body part or body parts healthy and functioning correctly. Now I have to deal with achy and painful joints once again 😥. :
When joints or muscles become too painful people normally take NSAIDs. When these types of medications are taken repeatedly, they take a toll on your liver. So how do we get rid of one problem without creating another? :

It's a common mistake made with trainers and probably beginning physical therapists as well. The shortened muscle is more often stronger than its lengthened antagonist, but that doesn't mean it is strong. 
I see this often with the clients I see. I'll see a client with forward shoulders and biased toward internal rotation. When I do a manual muscle test, they register as weak in internal rotation as well as external rotation. With clients who pronate and internally rotate in the hips, they are usually weak in internal rotation and adduction as well. With non-active populations who sit excessively, I find that even though they are hip flexion dominant (as opposed to glute/hip extension dominant), their hip flexors are usually very weak as well

The longer a dysfunction is present, the weaker both opposing muscle groups will get. That's why corrective exercise needs to be both localized and globalized.

❗️❗️Anterior hip pain/pinch or inability to or form a deep squat? ❗️❗️ People with these issues are often told to stretch or smash their psaoas, glutes, or piriformis, but those are not the likely culprit. Lack of internal rotation or intrinsic hip dysfunction often presents as groin and anterior hip pain. Most hips are very good at flexion and external rotation. To elicit change in our hips, we need to train the opposite, notably the often overlooked internal rotators. Try this 3 exercise sequence to open up some ROM and build strength in that new ROM to build a neuro connection for a long term change.

🔹Exercise 1 - lateral hip banded distraction with internal rotation. Strap a band at about knee height and place the band high up in your hip. Get on hands and knees and use a KB to place leg in internal rotation. Rock back and fourth in a controlled manner focusing on breathing for 1-2 minutes each side.

🔹Exercise 2 - lunge rotation with internal rotation over pressure. Get in a regular lunge position then use a KB to place your back leg in internal rotation. Keto diet and backing off from my normal training to focus on recovery. My focus for a while is going to be mobility and becoming athletic again. Having control over my body and preforming well in every activity. My current weight is 233.6. That is under what I competed at this time last year. I had so many injuries this offseason I stopped enjoying training. I would only have like 2 weeks of good training before something flared up. The keto style diet has already done wonders for my joints and inflammation. I'm feeling really good with this phase. I know I want to be huge and will get back to true bodybuilding at some point. Here it is guys!! After yesterday's tip on why to include bone broth in your lifestyle here's instructions how to make it. Enjoy 👌🏼 Cooking Instructions

Place bones into a large stock pot and cover with water.
Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to water prior to cooking. This helps to pull out important nutrients from the bones.
Fill stock pot with filtered water. Leave plenty of room for water to boil.
Heat slowly. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to simmer for at least six hours. Remove scum as it arises.
Cook slow and at low heat. Chicken bones can cook for 24 hours. Beef bones can cook for 48 hours. A low and slow cook time is necessary in order to fully extract the nutrients in and around the bone.
You can also add in vegetables, such as onions, garlic, carrots and celery, for added nutrient value.
After cooking, the broth will cool and a layer of fat will harden on top. This layer protects the broth beneath. Discard this layer only when you are about to eat the broth.

To follow up our last post on stretching the suboccipital muscles, we've included a great technique to help improve cervical range of motion, especially when limited by a tight facet joint. You can actually use the edge of a hand-towel to hook onto the facet joint and help loosen it up and improve your mobility. It's Monday, you deserve some damn dessert. Tweaked my FUDGY PUMPKIN BARS recipe with an added collagen boost and 🙌🏻 I'm digging it.
There's no gluten, dairy, grains, or refined sugar in these, and so many benefits from fiber, to protein, and goodness for your joints, gut, hair and nails, like, GET ON THIS PRONTO.

Do it:
1/2 cup almond butter
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 egg
1 scoop @furtherfood collagen 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 
3 oz super dark chocolate bar (I use 85% cacao), coarsely chopped

Heat oven to 350. Mix up all the ingredients, pour in greased and lined 8x8 pan. Bake 20-22 minutes or until knife comes out just clean. I love mine gooey so just about always under bake everything on purpose

Morning CARS or "Controlled Articular Rotations" routine part one from this morning, I've been in love with these for a while now, but after taking the #functionalrangeconditioning course this past weekend I can now fully explain the physiology and science behind the system, this is part one of my morning routine and I'll post up part two tomorrow.
