In 1953 on #thisdayinhistory the hit #television show #ilovelucy broadcast its pivotal episode for the Baby Boom, “Lucy Goes to the Hospital.” For months, the show had been tracking the process of Lucille Ball’s real-life pregnancy, public attention for a middle-class pregnant woman which at the time was nearly unprecedented and still very much taboo. The episode aired a few hours after the birth of Desi Arnez Jr. With 72% of U.S. households tuned in, this was the first seminal moment in tv history, many years before 9/11 or the Challenger or the Fall of Saigon or men walking on the moon.
