‘When we understand love as the will to nurture our own and another’s spiritual growth, it becomes clear that we cannot claim to love if we are hurtful and abusive. Love and abuse cannot coexist. Abuse and neglect are, by definition, the opposites of nurturant and care.’
There is a plethora of wonderful extracts I’ve underlined in Bell Hooks’, All About Love. I shared one yesterday and one today, yet still I feel as if I haven’t done the book justice. The quote above contains two of my favourite ideas from the book. 1) Love is not something that just happens to you, it is an active choice. We choose to love someone and it doing so we commit to nurturing their spiritual growth as they should commit to nurturing ours. 2) Love can never be abusive. In any way. Physical, mental or verbal. That is not genuine love. Love is too holy a concept to be associated with abuse.
This is a book that should be read by everyone, man or woman. Whether you agree with all her points or not, I think anyone who reads it will come out the other end with a slightly softer and kinder heart 💛
i think about playing ouija board, summon someone and talk about random things, someone who will desperately wanna see me anytime, someone who I can feel even when I'm alone, someone will haunt or visit me even when I'm sleeping. —In short I want to have someone like a ghost? —But I think I already have and you're my kind of ghost/lovely spirit @lackofpresence 💕#afterlight#vscocam#vscocamph#vsco#books#poems#poem#book
