Album: Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978)
Photography: Frank Stefanko @frankstefanko
The fourth studio album by Bruce Springsteen. The album marked the end of a three-year gap between albums brought on by contractual obligations and legal battling with former manager Mike Appel. Although the album did not produce high-charting singles it remained on the charts for 97 weeks. A steady seller in Springsteen's catalog, it has been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA.
During the Darkness sessions, Springsteen wrote or recorded many songs that he ended up not using on the album. This was to keep the album's thematic feel intact, even at the expense of not having hits on it. According to Jimmy Iovine, Springsteen wrote at least 70 songs during the sessions and 52 of those songs were recorded with some not fully completed.
Some of the unused material became hits for other artists such as "Because the Night" for Patti Smith; "Fire" for Robert Gordon and The Pointer Sisters; "Rendezvous" for Greg Kihn; "This Little Girl" for Gary U.S. Bonds; and several tracks for Southside Johnny including 3 songs released on the Asbury Jukes album entitled Hearts of Stone. Other songs such as "Independence Day", "Point Blank", "The Ties That Bind", and "Sherry Darling" would turn up on Springsteen's next album, The River, while still others became bootleg classics until surfacing on Springsteen's compilations titled Tracks, 18 Tracks, and The Promise.
Hey guys! Hope you had an AMAZING Monday! I’m excited because I just ordered my brand new desk that I’ve been wanting for a while and I get out of school early tomorrow for my Cross Country meet! Ahhhhh October is going to be so amazing! My desk will be here by then which means that I’ll start decorating my room, I see Halsey, and of course Halloween! AHHHHHH. @iamhalsey #hfk#hfktour#badlands#room93#hopelessfountainkingdom#halsey
When you and your friend go for a piercing and leave with tattoos. Got these two on Saturday, both mine. The first is something I was debating on for awhile, but when I saw video of @iamhalsey (whose music has helped me through a lot) getting some with some fans and when she said the meaning of hers (potential yet to be achieved) and it was identical to mine, I took it as fate and decided to stop guessing and start doing. The second is kind of nerdy 🤓 it comes from @marvel and @marvelstudios @agentsofshield it's an 'object of unknown Origin' something that has the potential to cause harm but also, in the right hands, do good. Daisy Johnson or Quake/Skye (an 0-8-4) played by @chloebennet is someone has gone through such darkness but rather than using that as an excuse to create and be the darkness set forth for her, channels that into something positive and bring forth light. Even at times of adversity she chooses to the harder path because it's what is right. I myself have gone through things that I could lead me down one road or fight to create my own. It's not easy and I find it hard sometimes but having characters and people to look to that chose not to let their past dictate their future is very empowering and inspiring. It was also nice to have such a sweet and skilled artist who took the time to make sure they were exactly how I wanted them and where I wanted them @staceywalker_tattoos at @dedicatedtattoo having these two along either side of my right wrist are a constant reminder of the 'Potential yet to come' and the that 'I am not a victim to circumstance I simply have to take my power and turn it into light' until then 'may the bridges I burn light the way' #newtattoo#tattoo#tattoolover#marvel#marveluniverse#agentsofshield#shieldagent#daisyjohnson#quake#084#objectofunknownorigin#inhumans#halsey#halseytattoo#chloebennet#welcometothebadlands#badlands#greatthingstocome#motivation#motivationmonday
