I had this post planned for a long time and I meant to praise my dear in it. But in hard times like these it would feel like an offence to talk about unicorns and marshmallows.
I always considered instagram a tool to relax, get to know new people and places and spread joy. But it is also an amazing tool to bring awareness to existing problems, such as the nasty things happening in my homeland - Slovakia. For a member country of the EU we are so far behind our fellow countries. People are unhappy, struggling, fleeing abroad. Very few things work here, if any at all.
For generations my people were raised to work and suffer quietly, never doubting the authorities. Raised to endure anything, obey, work and pray. And sure, in a decent society this could possibly work. But there are always people without a backbone who are not afraid to use the modest ones for their own benefit.
I wish we were more like our French or Greek folks that are not afraid to voice their discontent (ok, maybe a little less, you guys are overdoing it). It seems that something broke in our people lately though. It seems that we found the line that was the death of two innocent people. I honestly hope they did not die for nothing. That at least we will prove to them that they awoke and inspired us to stand tall and united in these extremely challenging times. I don't want to bring kids into this world in my country as it is now. I believe the change is possible. But we can't back up now. Let's finish what we started.
