DinSpiration had a wish for fish this evening. Sadly, the ‘Little Tasters’ of the team weren’t in agreement. But, with thanks to a batch of curry in the freezer (premade & preposted) everyone was kept happy. 😋

Going fishy with Salmon, New Potatoes & Feta Salad. 
Going defrosted with Sweet Potato & Lentil Curry. 
A salad of spinach & rocket, coriander, peppers, cucumber, red onion, pomodoro & sun-dried tomatoes. Topped with a drizzle of basil olive oil, mixed seeds, feta & egg. New potatoes with butter, it’s the only way. Salmon Fillet pan fried in chilli olive oil (just for a change!) Finishing touch of balsamic glaze.

Well ended up with a subway salad for lunch and then decided to wait until I came home after shopping to make tea. Had a lovely day shopping with my mum & nan and had my hair done 😁 Made some slimming world burgers for tea with wholemeal bread rolls. Used 1 as my HeB and counted 6 syns for the 2nd one. Had mozzarella cheese for my HeA. Also added bacon, spinach, fried onions and some bbq sauce for 1syn.

Homemade fish cakes - a sneaky way to get omega 3 rich salmon into the kids. 
I actually used a selection of three different fish: salmon, smoked haddock and cod.  Combine cooked fish with mashed potato, then coat in flour (I used gluten free), egg and lastly polenta (mixed with a pinch of pepper, salt, garlic powder and paprika) and then shallow fried in extra virgin olive oil over a low heat.  End result appears almost breaded which pretty much guarantees my lot will eat it 🙄. Served with vegetables and homemade potato and sweet potato chips.

Organic scrambled eggs with spinach and tomato. Side of avocado and flourless wheat berry toast with organic butter. 
Have you tried farmer's market fresh eggs? To me its shocking how much better they taste compared to supermarket organic eggs. It's the one thing I definitely would recommend you try if you haven't already. It's hard to go back to others when you have. :) This is what I gave my 3 year old for breakfast and I gave my 10 month old a few eggs with spinach and avocado. I left out the tomato for him as it's recommended to wait until 12 months to introduce some of the more common allergenic foods. Also, I'm waiting until 12 months to give him toast as I want him to get a taste for the healthier foods first.

He wasn't eating, fell way off his growth curve, and often vomited after new foods. I only met with with mom twice to explore Ellyn Satter's division of responsibility in feeding. It was a lot of reassuring mom to keep trying, keep exposing, keep experimenting, and let him feed himself - no force feeding. Happy to see the kiddo back on his growth curve and loving ALL food!⠀

Our dinner last night: little veggie pasties (lentil, carrot, squash, mushrooms), hummous and a grilled veggie salad (aubergine, yellow peppers, leaves, pomegranate seeds, topped with toasted nuts). All of this has made great lunch packs today - the griddled veg is fab popped into a wrap with a dollop of smashed avocado .

Sometimes I do enjoy receiving mail. I actually do like the hello fresh meals. Sometimes, I am just over having to think about what to cook. Plus, they are pretty nice! The leftovers also means my husband and I get lunch. However, it is expensive and just not in our weekly budget. 50% though was enough to convince me to reactivate my account. So, I ordered the 4 meals for 4 people box and with the discount it’s $69. Yay!

After 11 years working within multidisciplinary teams at Nepean hospital I am convinced that patients get much better care when their care providers communicate well. 
As such, a high priority for me in private practice is to connect with other health professionals working with similar clients. So Angela and I were really pleased to have lunch with Val from @lets_eat_speech today. Val specialises in challenging feeding behaviour, swallowing dysfunction and all things feeding kids from a speech pathology viewpoint. It was fantastic to have time to chat about the big picture of food and nutrition and how our diet culture's food panic can make the difficult task of feeding kids even harder. We're looking forward to working with Val in the future.

Getting familiar with individual ingredients is often easier for children to cope with than being presented with a whole bunch of 
foods mixed together.  It’s a great way to introduce new foods, while not overwhelming your child with a completely new dish. Thanks @foost.com.au  for the deconstructed dinner inspiration! Also, who doesn’t love chicken on a stick?! 😋

My kids love chicken on a stick but store bought ones can get pricy (especially when you have four kids). It’s pretty easy to make your own. I just get tenderloins and thread them onto sticks (the kids help). I then coat them in a little mix of honey, soy and sesame seeds. And bake at 180 for 15-20 mins. Here they are served with #deconstructed rice salad featuring black rice, bbq corn and some fresh and roast veg. #chickenonastick #involvekids #roast

Didn’t have any yogurts left or barely any fruit and I wanted to save my A&B choices for later so I was stuck..only thing I could come up with was eggs! Girls had cereal, milk & raspberries & ofcourse wanted an egg the same as mummy. Satsuma & plum on the side but had to eat them first super quick, hiding in the kitchen as they were the very last ones and girls would have pinched them before I got a look in 😂...busy day of nursery, food shopping, Christmas shopping and I’m even finally getting my hair cut today woohoo so no idea what’s for lunch or tea yet. Today’s going to be a see what happens kind of day but I’ll still be sticking to plan! 🍉

"Mum can we get Frusli bars" turned into these 5 minutes in a bowl 10 minutes in the oven invent your own snack bar... give child a bowl add a cup of oats, 🍓half a cup dried fruit of choice, 🥜half a cup chopped nuts of choice, half a cup seeds bind with a few table spoons of 🍯honey, and or nut butter until you have a sticky mess (kids can mix with hands) press into a tin lined with baking parchment and bake until just browning approx 10 minutes, cool completely and slice... our little wrapping papers are from @flyingtigeruk store in an airtight container for up to a week (if they last that long)➡️snack bars loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals and without the 🥄🥄🥄 of sugar found in processed varieties 👊🏼not just for kids #healthysnacks #healthykids #nutrition #nourished #cookwithkids #familymeals #sugarfree
