#Grateful. Being over 50, has given me a deep appreciation for my health. How often do we take our health for granted, until our body gives us a red flag, we get a diagnosis , or we lose someone close to us?  I try and appreciate every minute now. This body has been resilient.  It has allowed me to grow, travel, have a family, and has even given me red flags to alert me to health problems.  I have learned that the more I treat my body with respect, the more it gives me back. I have a greater appreciation now for everything. 🐶You know, there is a lot of chatter out there from companies who want you to believe that there are short cuts to losing fat.  And who doesn’t want a short cut, right?

🦁The problem with that is  there are no short cuts.  None. Zero.  All of the detoxes, the teas, the wraps, the “fat burners” won’t  do a thing for you.  They are just a waste of your money.

🐥So,instead of looking for the shortcut, look at what habits you can instill that will last you a life time.  It is a long game after all:

🦆Strength train and in some cardio you’ve - Hours and hours on the elliptical may burn you some calories, but it also may burn your muscle as well.  Shift your focus to strength training and add in some cardio that you love and you will burn calories and build muscle

🐚Consume protein at every meal along with veggies and fruit - Protein can be a game changer.  You don’t have to go overboard (maybe .7-1.0 grams per pd of bodyweight or goal bodyweight), but having protein at every meal alongside veggies and fruit is a winning combination

😀Sleep and laugh a lot - Sleep is probably one of the most underrated aspects of fat loss.  Good quality sleep will keep your stress levels down, give you energy, and allow your body to recover from your workouts.  And who doesn’t love to laugh?  As I have gotten older,  I have re-prioritized so many things in life, and one thing that has popped to the top of my list is to smile, laugh, and enjoy life more.  Life is way too short to be miserable.

In my adolescence, I suffered from exercise induced asthma attacks. As a result, I used Asthma as an excuse not to exercise.

Follow the plan, even when it’s not convenient.  The results come when you put in the work.  Being on vacation isn’t the easiest time to always get in my workouts because there is so much fun stuff to do.  But, I have big goals and sitting on my butt instead of busting it is NOT going to get me there.  I am not dieting so it’s easier, but I am still watching the foods that I eat.  I didn’t work hard to build a physique to throw it all away.  Will I come home heavier....YEP!  I retain water like a mad person when I travel to the warm country.  Will I stress?  Nope!  It’s all about lifestyle.  All the water will fade quickly and things will return to normal after a couple days home.  This is my life.  I live the lifestyle everyday.  It is what keeps me upwardly mobile and feeling fantastic.  Nothing will ever change that💖

Today was my 3’s day in my programming, so I did 357 x 3. Very pleased 🙏with this because it puts me back at the level I was 7 weeks ago when I tweaked my back.
I’ve been very cautious since then, you know, being a man of advanced age 😀

I made some changes to my #sumodeadlift technique and I’m starting to find my groove. So the goal of 405 by 12-31-17 is still possible. Need to make some things happen the next 6 weeks.

💥HOW TO BURN FAT💥

🐶You know, there is a lot of chatter out there from companies who want you to believe that there are short cuts to losing fat.  And who doesn’t want a short cut, right?
-
🦁The problem with that is  there are no short cuts.  None. Zero.  All of the detoxes, the teas, the wraps, the “fat burners” won’t  do a thing for you.  They are just a waste of your money.

🐥So,instead of looking for the shortcut, look at what habits you can instill that will last you a life time.  It is a long game after all:

🦆Strength train and in some cardio you’ve - Hours and hours on the elliptical may burn you some calories, but it also may burn your muscle as well.  Shift your focus to strength training and add in some cardio that you love and you will burn calories and build muscle

🐚Consume protein at every meal along with veggies and fruit - Protein can be a game changer.  You don’t have to go overboard (maybe .7-1.0 grams per pd of bodyweight or goal bodyweight), but having protein at every meal alongside veggies and fruit is a winning combination

😀Sleep and laugh a lot - Sleep is probably one of the most underrated aspects of fat loss.  Good quality sleep will keep your stress levels down, give you energy, and allow your body to recover from your workouts.  And who doesn’t love to laugh?  As I have gotten older,  I have re-prioritized so many things in life, and one thing that has popped to the top of my list is to smile, laugh, and enjoy life more.  Life is way too short to be miserable.

More upper body today- 3-4 sets each of- 6 reps x 10kg bench press, 8 reps x 8kg triceps kickbacks, 6 reps x 17.5kg barbell curls (pleased with this; was 10kg a few months ago....small steps!), lateral & anterior deltoids 8 reps x 4kg ( my weakest), chest flyes 10 reps x 6kg, angels (lats) 8 reps x 10kg, biceps curls 8 reps x 8kg. Plus leg press at 55kg 3 sets of 8 reps. Also did some rowing for my CV. I will get fitter!! 🏋️‍♀️🚣‍♀️💪🏻
