What is flexibility and mobility? Do you think they are the same? Most people do but, they are very different. Flexibility is the ability of a muscle or muscle groups to lengthen passively through their range of motion. Mobility is the ability of a muscle or muscle groups to lengthen actively through their range of motion. Mobility is also how far the joint can move within the joint capsule. It also takes into account motor control within the nervous system.
Unless you have time to sit and stretch for countless hours a day, the effects are only temporary, and if there is a restriction, most likely you're not going to get anywhere. This is why mobility training is more effective. It's based on movement and motor control.
Motion is lotion and mobility work is best done before your workout. For your new and improved range of motion to stick, you'll have to do a lot of this. Move gently and regularly rather than going full force every once in a while.
A few mobility tips:
1. Joint range of motion is king - move your joints first
2. Move with strength, control, and stability
3. Use a foam roller IN ADDITION to your mobility routine.
4. If you don't use it, you lose it. Move regularly and gently.
