Day NINE (18th Oct) of #UpendedAsanas 😱 How is it the end already! Everyone's post have been so beautiful so far!! For the last post we are asking you to get upside down with scorpion legs! 🦂 I have the forearmstand variation pictured here, however @livinleggings and @jbreton22 will have two other inversions for you to try 💛

Tips:
1) Get your foundation aligned first! Aim to have your elbows under shoulders, not flaring out to the side. This base will not only activate your shoulder stability to help your balance easier, but line your shoulders up safely - no injuries here! Push through your forearms to root down, as your shoulders lengthen and draw away from your ears.
2) Scorpion legs can be intimidating, so move sloowwly! Focus on drawing your head toward your toes, rather than dumping your toes down to your head. It is also a lot of glutes and hamstring engagement, keep them switched on and in control of your legs. You should also use your hands and forearms to push down into the floor to help lift through your head and upper back.

Always happy to find or be taught new ways of stretching. If you've a wheel, you can use the wheel too though I find the blocks more intense. Reaching the arms overhead to grab beneath the couch is a great shoulder stretch and intensifies the back stretch. I was almost thinking of getting rid of this couch but glad I didn't because the couch is actually a great prop for practice 😂 the next time we get a new couch, there will be several requirements!..

If you're a stretch fanatic like me, yes, I actually LOVE stretching more than strength work these days, you must invest in props for home stretching..

I'm a queen of props so I even have a basket full of yoga props 😂 if I've to narrow down the key props, they are..

❤️Blocks, min 2. That is the bare minimum. In fact, I'll add, foam AND cork blocks. Foam blocks are great for kneeling on for quad stretches and other wall stretches but cork blocks are better for the wrist if you want to practice strength workouts like L sits or slide throughs ala @dylanwerner @codyapp TSE style. I currently have 4 foam blocks, 2 cork blocks and another 2 foam with @the_spg_effect I'm not kidding. I use all of it..

❤️ Straps - one yoga strap and one stretchy/resistance/terra band. Great tool assist for shoulder stretches, binds, flexibility etc. The resistance band is good for wrist conditioning and other strengthening and physio style stretches..

❤️ Physio pocket or trigger point ball or peanut.  I do this prior to stretches and find that the fascia release helps in my flexibility during stretching. My pocket physio nerve stretches helped greater in my carpal tunnel recovery.

We busted out the contortion table today to start working on @bendy_becca's act for the Winter Showcase at @circuscenter!!! 🎉 We started working on some sequences and are hoping to put this handstand in 😍😍😍 She balanced this for awhile on her own 💪 You can see her trying to tell me to move away but I didn't understand and just poked her some more 😬 watch until the end to see the convo 😂👍 Great work today, Becca!! #trainingwithcatiebrier

I don't usually do yoga up front, but I was waiting for Shoobaloo to get off the bus 😁 I haven't done many kick overs lately and it felt pretty awkward,  but I made it over so that counts for something! I've been trying to get into #handstand from #standingsplit with the least amount of jump possible. Not doing so well in that department,  but I nailed one of my best #oneleggedwheelpose 👍

Day 🔟 of #YogisForBoobies is the last day! We have a #yogischoice and I chose to visit #flyingwarrior pose 🌷 I'm still struggling with this pose 😅 but I got my leg straighter than last time and that's a plus!

I’m starting to feel that i truly need to practice these standing postures way more than I do. I normally practice a lot of sitting and laying down poses and i tend to forget about these balancing and more grounded poses. I’m happy to be joining this challenge so I can learn more about this theme. Y O G A // What a beautiful way to arrive in Calgary. Some people thought I was crazy to get married, move to a new city and then take a 10 day Vinyasa yoga training course, but it just felt so right. Spending 10 days with these wonderfully supportive humans during my time of transition was exactly what I needed. Movement, meditation, discussion. Moments of sadness followed by laughter and love. I feel grounded. I feel ready to take my next steps. And I feel a deep connection to my intuition and to myself. Wise words from a mentor and fellow yogi that we lost recently. Imagine if a leader said this to you at work? How great is that? Truly inspiring. He built his legacy in every company that he touched and as an athlete, he taught me so much. He gave up persuading me to rejoin triathlons and marathons but continued to encourage me on the mat when he took up yoga (and was darn good at it.) I will miss him liking almost every single yoga post and video that I posted on IG. So this week, this is the theme I have for my classes..

What matters is how you feel not how the photos look on Instagram. I keep saying this, progress cannot be rushed. Marathon running taught me mental endurance but yoga sure did teach me PATIENCE..

Frankly, I didn't want to post these photos because, uh what progress even after 8months. But if you look closely at the door hinge, you can see that my foot started at the hinge and now it's lower. Barely noticeable but STILL progress. I can't change my anatomy ie my flat back syndrome so I've to work around it..
.
Admittedly, I've lost some zest to practice. I'm constantly tired to the point @the_spg_effect suggested that I cut down on my teaching. So from a daily practice, I'll be lucky if I got twice a week in. That's how bad it is. The only thing that has been keeping me somewhat motivated is a private training with an amazing coach. It means getting up at 5am though and surprised I've been managing it..

Am I giving up? Nope. I hope to be back soon - inspired, self motivated and determined to practice and look for progress..

This is a tricky pose because I never know if I’m well aligned. 
I remember someone telling me to bend my knees and come forward until I feel my heels wanting to come off the floor. I also remember someone saying that I should have my back straight and suck my belly in. I also remember telling me to have my arms beside my ears and look up. Damn, this is hard!!! Specially when I still don’t have enough flexibility of my shoulders and chest. So when I raise my arms I tend to compensate and curve my lower back. This isn’t a posture I usually practice so it means I need to do it more often! ☺️🙏

So much is changing for me right now and instead of resisting the tides, I'm learning to go with the flow. I still don't know where life is headed and maybe that's half the fun, but it fills my heart to realise how much love and support I'm surrounded by. Also, it is starting to feel like I'm headed somewhere better, and I'm grateful for all the opportunities that seem to be unfolding ahead of me. 💕
