A special shout out to my colleague turned dear friend, Wan. When I moved to the School of Communication studies early this year I didn’t know anyone (at least I didn’t think I did). I was nervous as hell, somewhat shy and vulnerable. For the first few weeks I felt lost and really alone, as a social scientist and as a newbie I really didn’t feel like I belonged.
Although I had been a staff member of AUT for 3 years, I was now in a new school with new protocols, I had a new job and responsibilities and I was meeting a lot of new and unfamiliar faces and new teaching teams. I was no longer in the school I knew well. I felt a bit disoriented and anxious, then I met Wan. She has been the “comms school university mother figure/leader/knowerofallthingscomms” I needed. She has been kind beyond words and has made myself and Ally feel warmly welcomed and like we belong. I cannot put into words just how grateful and lucky I am to have met Wan and to not only call her my colleague, but now my dear friend❤️ Thank you for everything. You are my ray of sunshine at work and @d_wan_and_only you really are Wan in a million😂👌🏻❤️ #autuni#colleague#lecturers#lecturer#academics#academia#communications#communicationnerds#friendship#family#smiles#auckland#aut#gratitude#thankyou#selfie#iamamanchild#haha#yolo
