View from my place. Bali is celebrating Nyepi today. It’s a day of silence. No ones allowed to leave their homes, start fires or use lights. Even the airport is shut down for the day. Supposedly this way, the island will look deserted and bad spirits will leave. The ceremony with the ogohs ogohs (giant colourful figures of demons) was pretty interesting last night. It’s so cool that the entire island is pretty much shut down for the day. I don’t know anywhere else in the world that does this. Pretty neat.

Mind-Body Optimization | Week 11: Core Activation & Bracing | Post 3: Supple Scientist Suggestion
When building any structure most time is usually spent on the foundation, which is made up of strong materials like metal rebar and concrete.
With that understanding, I think of the above core cues as my metal rebar and concrete for my house/push-up. It took me a bit of practice to learn and understand how to activate each area of the core and once I learned how to utilize them together I noticed a huge difference. This is because when activated properly, my core helps to keep my pelvis in a neutral position, making me stronger and protecting my spine. I talked about this before when I posted about posture, only this time it's being applied to a resistance exercise.
Check out the difference in my push-up in the video above. When activated correctly my whole body is involved in the push-up and becomes one ridgid unit, amplifing the intensity of the exercise. This also leads to more symmetrical muscle growth and helps avoid muscle imbalances that I could potentially develop.
This has really changed the way I exercise and I noticed that I have become more athletic and stronger as a result. I hope this helps you just like it has helped me!
