Pretty much a 'Chinatown' inside China. Good for photos, but the Xiao Long Baos here have gone to absolute shit. Luckily though, I had relatives which took me to try some authentic Shanghainese food; Xiao Long Baos, considered snacks, werent even on the menu.

Tomorrow Robert and I will be giving a ROCK TALK to the Young Explorers at The Explorers Club. For those who don’t know Robert: he is the MIT professor who calculated the age of our solar system. We will share our lifetime mineral collections with the kids to study and contemplate. If you have ever wondered: How old is the oldest rock or what does a 4.5 billion rock look like? - come along! #greenland #rocks #geology #exploration #explorers #indigenous #arctic #hunter #eskimo #inuit #the_explorers_club

Repost from @aikskimawa: "The Olmecs were the earliest known major civilization in Mexico. They lived in the tropical lowlands of south-central Mexico, in the present-day states of Veracruz and Tabasco. It has been speculated that the Olmec derive from neighboring Mokaya or Mixe–Zoque Indians (Both are pre-Olmec civilizations). The population of the Olmecs flourished during Mesoamerica's formative period, dating roughly from as early as 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE. Though Pre-Olmec cultures had flourished in the area since about 2500 BCE. The Olmec are most notable for their striking works of art, especially their famous “stone heads”, which are colossal-sized stone works that resemble human heads, and possibly those of warriors or emperors. The Olmec are also well known for their many jade masks, which also resemble human faces and come in many creative expressions. Unlike their many mesoamerican descendants, the Olmec did not build pyramids as we see them today, like Chichen Itza for example. The Olmec built their mounds out of earth. Today, the Olmec’s “Great Pyramid” in La Venta, rises 112 ft above the naturally flat landscape. The Olmec utilized their environment to the fullest, as they worked the earth to grow crops as well as used what they could to make weapons. The Olmec did not have steel, so they crafted weapons from stone and obsidian. It is not clear why the Olmec civilization vanished from history, some people believe it was due to famine. Although the Olmec no longer exist as a civilization, they did leave behind many descendants as well as they inspired many civilizations that came later. Similar art styles and other cultural aspects can be seen in people like the Maya and even the Aztec civilizations. It is clear that modern day Maya of southern Mexico and Guatemala are the descendants of the Olmec people and this is not only reflected by their culture but can be seen in their facial features. The Olmec were undoubtably an exclusively American Indian civilization. #olmec #olmecs #indigenous #aboriginal #moundbuilders #mesoamerican #coppercolored #americanindian #coppertribe #1828definitionofamerican #realcoppercolored #realnativeamerican

Today’s #illustration is a general depiction of an #AboriginalAustralian #hunter who could belong to a number of #indigenous cultures on the continent. As I tried to #illustrate on this young man, many #NativeAustralian cultures historically practiced #scarification to signify social statuses or as a demonstration of pain tolerance. Admittedly, I am fairly ignorant of the diversity and complexity of the many cultures that have inhabited the isolated and unique continent for past 60-75,000 years! Everything I’ve learned about these amazing people over my recent study is remarkable and inspiring. If anyone has book suggestions on Aboriginal Australian cultures please leave a comment! #Echidna

Yesterday I had the pleasure to receive representatives from the Special District of Indigenous Health, via the Ministry of Health. They struggle to be welcomed into the health system, into humanized care, focused on the specificities of their culture.

It’s beautiful to see the struggle, the guts of a people. And at the same time, it’s very sad to see how much we need to move forward in citizenship, in respect. These Brazilians, representatives of our beautiful and expressive cultural roots, are disrespected, forgotten, excluded, decimated.

Everything is indeed connected on a sub atomic level. By going back to our cultures we have a chance to learn, absorb and apply the principles in the stories they took the time to write and preserve for us. The names of these principles have been in the west, mistaken as gods, although they can become gods over your life if you operate in ignorance of the natural principles or if one chooses to praise the finger or the hand instead of the entire glory that is Creator. Language changes names. Settings change to reflect people's surroundings. And really, none of that matters. I think it's time to apply an open mind in 2018 to the ancient teachings of old. Honoring each other's and digging deeper into the well that is us. #LIGHTANDLOVELASTLONGEST /// DIVIDED WE FALL /// #PHOTOGRAPHY #DIGITALART #GRAPHICDESIGN #MUSIC #INDEPENDENT #INDIGENOUS #ART #ARTIST #LA #NYC #SETLIFE #TRIBE #GODISLOVE
ALL OF CREATION EXISTS INSIDE OF YOU /// 📸 by @kelo_of_dope edited by @iamstudiosmedia /// Every process in nature, every planet and star system is replicated in our body on the micro level, therefore, we are direct reflection of the entire universe. That's why it's more important now than ever to find and inner standing of how those outter planets are affecting the inner planets. We can't say we are one and say everything isn't connected. Everything is indeed connected on a sub atomic level. By going back to our cultures we have a chance to learn, absorb and apply the principles in the stories they took the time to write and preserve for us.
