This was definitely something I had NEVER thought about until it was brought to my attention a couple of years ago 😳 did you know mineral oil has has nearly 40 different names (so they can hide it on us) 🤔 It acts like Saran Wrap on your skin- not allowing one of our largest detox organs to do its job and allow those toxins out? 🤦🏻♀️ Let alone the toxins it’s putting into your skin 🙈
When your mom goes digging through her boxes of photos and comes up with some gems from your preschool birthday, you find out just how good your long term memory is. I may not be able to tell you what I ate for lunch today but I can tell you with certainty that the little girl sitting next to me in these photos was my friend Betsy. What I remember most about her is that she was kind.
Preschool was when I learned the harsh reality that not everyone would want to be my friend. There was another little girl in my class named Carrie B. (not pictured) who made that pretty clear when she slapped me on the playground. I could never figure out why Carrie B. didn't like me. But Betsy would always take my mind off of it by bringing over some toys to play with or asking me to go down the slide with her. I remember the kindness. Sure wish I could remember her last name.
Over the last year I’ve been working on being true to myself, this isn’t always an easy path! It has meant accepting myself more every day, giving things a go, saying yes to my dream path even when others around me are saying are you crazy?, and realising that it’s okay that I’m different or that I choose a different path than someone else. Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same, liked the same things and did the same things as eachother all the time?!

At dinner, a man and his daughter sat down as I was finishing up eating. I asked him if she liked to color. He said yes, so I asked if I could give her one of my coloring books. He said yes and prompted her to say thank you. Then she kept wanting to look at it until he told her that he'd keep it safe while they ate. He told me that he had just taken her to her first movie 'Coco', which she enjoyed a lot. He asked if I had a store. I said no, but he could download more copies of the coloring book with the link on the back if he wanted. After we said goodbye, I left the last 4 coloring books I had with me. Mission accomplished! Time to go to bed now...
This year has been a wild one, and an exciting one for SheSays as well. Here are *some* of our most noteable events and honors this past year: We hosted and had panels for the Day of the Girl Child Event. Our organization received recognition from the @obamafoundation In fact @trishashetty
Got to attend the Obama Foundation Summit as a civic leader. @trishashetty and her work for SheSays has received the Queen's Young Leader Award (@queensyoungleaders). But most importantly we were able to raise awareness for unfair tax on sanitary products through the hashtag #LahuKaLagaan . YES, currently our efforts are still ongoing. We have filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court to fight #LahuKaLagaan . Accessibility and affordability of sanitary products is a must. It is non-negotiable especially when 88% of Indian women still resort to using unsanitary objects during their periods resulting in infections and even cervical cancer. This is something we will continue to fight for in 2018.✔ Above all *thank you* to our followers for all of your support. Thank you to all of our partners, and for every single one of you that repost, share and use YOUR voices to bring the change we need. Can't wait to see what change we'll bring and make in 2018. ❤❤❤ Video From @jagmeetsingh
Today was an emotional day for many reasons. ⠀
During my attendance at Wreaths Across America at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, I had the opportunity to connect with many of our veterans, future service members, Gold Star Wives and their families. ⠀
I listened to the stories they shared with me. I shed quiet tears with some. I comforted them and let them know they and their deceased loved ones matter. ⠀
As a physician who takes care of the health needs of some of our local veterans, and after today more than ever, I am increasingly aware that we are not doing justice to the sacrifice that our veterans and their families have given. I listened as people expressed anger regarding how our current Congressional Representative Chuck Fleischmann speaks of how he "stands up" for veterans, posing in photo ops with Gold Star Wives (even calling them "his ladies"), but hasn't even sponsored a bill that would help them to do something as simple as buy groceries or have access to healthcare in a timely fashion. ⠀
Words can be cheap. When you haven't put action behind those words to prove to people you care about them, then you Chuck Fleischmann embody the contrite disingenuous platitudes you so often use in order to glean a photo op and then leave people in the same position that which you found them...you leave them with nothing.⠀
If the Gold Star Wives choose to honor me with the privilege of letting me call them "My Ladies" rest assured Chuck, they wouldn't be literally going hungry and doing without. ⠀
Today the Gold Star Wives collected and prepared over one hundred boxes of food to help feed over twenty-five hungry veteran families here in Chattanooga. Our campaign was honored to donate food to this effort, roll up our sleeves, stand side by side with them and get the boxes packed and ready for delivery to hungry veteran families. ⠀
Today these ladies and all the amazing volunteers stole my heart. ⠀
Kindness matters. Thank you to all of our Veterans, Gold Star Wives, future service men and women and all the families who support them. ⠀
A special thank you to Ruth of the Air Force ROTC who helped us when one of her colleagues had an unexpected medical issue occur. She knew exactly what to do and her extra hands really helped! ⠀
Advent Acts of Kindness, Day 16: My husband is a befriender and a bridge-builder, and that means that he is constantly turning strangers into new friends. And that’s what we did tonight. We had a delightful dinner with strangers and left with a budding friendship. As an extroverted introvert, this is firmly outside of my comfort zone, and yet I cannot deny that some of my dearest friends were once strangers befriended by my husband. Who can you befriend this week? .
One of my favorite months that I have taught my girls values was last month. The values were kindness and friendliness. .
I loved the quotes I found for these values. Get this printable free on the blog. Direct link in profile.
As we come into the last few weeks of 2017 and the holiday season craziness is in full force. Many of us loose sight, and feel pressure to buy gifts that leave us, overwhelmed and financially stressed. The generosity of giving is not only about the giving of material objects, it’s also about the everyday positive and uplifting things we do to help each another out. Being kind and making time for others is one of the single most important ways for us to achieve happiness. Which is something that gifts and money can’t buy. Lindy.💚X #bekind
I never forget when people are kind to me for no reason 💛
When I was overweight and struggling with my mental health - I used to always feel like a burden to people around me. Sometimes it was in my own head and my insecurities making me feel that way. Other times people would treat me in a way that made me feel invisible and not worthy.
I also started believing that people are only friendly when they need something from you or trying to sell you something.
So when people were kind to me for no reason it felt like I could physically feel my heart smiling ☺️💛 Sometimes that random kindness was the only thing that made me feel good that week.
I’ll never forget how something so small could be a glimmer of light when everything else felt like a raging storm 🌦
My goal is to always be kind because someone might just really need it that day 💛
Met these two lovely Chinese who barely spoke English but unhesitatingly finished their breakfast and helped us scour our hostel- which was trickily located on a super super tiny alley up hill after 82936361983 left and right turns taken from the main road. It was about 8am and yet very dark and freezing.
All Chinese I met so far have been really nice people. To travel is to confirm all the things people have told about on social media might be completely wrong. To acknowledge once again that kindness's all around as long as we're open to take it.
