Recently, a new craft beer joint opened up in my home town of Eastleigh in a little suburb called Bishopstoke, called @steamtownbrewco and it’s bloody awesome! It’s stocked with loads of the excellent beers and brewers you’d expect to see in London’s craft beer pubs and bottle shops and the first of its kind in the area I believe. About time and very refreshing that craft beers are starting to catch on outside of London!
I managed to visit here twice when I was back for Christmas, this particular time was a two pint warm up before a pub crawl around neighbouring city Winchester. My mate actually bought this beer for himself, had one sip and didn’t like it as it was too strong, so naturally I took over. I took a sip myself, which hit the back of my throat with a gulp of too much air in just the wrong spot, making me cough and splutter with watering eyes like I had either just eaten a hot chilli or that it was too strong for me too! Whatever the case, I looked like a right twat!
The beer was a 6.2% Devotion from @darkrevolutionbeer, which was actually pretty nice, despite my amateurish antics. It‘s a pretty strong tasting pale ale with a slick and oily texture in the mouth that kicks like you’d expect from the ABV. Lots of tropical and citrus flavours as you’d expect, with a few grassy and resinous pine notes but sadly with a touch of hop burn that made it a little less sessionable. Other than that, very good, mostly due to a personal favourite hop combination trio of Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic that delivers a dank, strong and hoppy assault of flavour and punch that has a long and lingering, mild bitter finish. Another one to savour over time than show yer mates who’s boss, or it’ll show you up, teaching you a lesson or two along the way. Until we meet again!
Finally got my 🙌🏽 on a cheeky ice cream sandwich from @happyendingsldn and jeeeeez I'm impressed. Who knew ice cream could taste so good 👅 The perfect combination of sweet and savoury 💥💥
