Spent a long weekend visiting my home in Maryland. My heart is so full after spending time with my family and reconnecting with friends. I've hard such a hard time with my health this year. I felt myself falling into a place of isolation, helpless to prevent it. It's taken a lot of healing, but I finally feel ready to seek out community and to put in the effort to maintain the beautiful friendships I already have. Feeling so much gratitude for my health and my life 💗🌙✨

Why sustainability? Because our well-being and the future depend on it! If we keep purchasing plastic-free, organic, sustainable, fair trade products, our economy will make the shift from linear to circular- which is sustainable. Right now in our linear economy, we are trying to have infinite growth using finite resources. That doesn't work. It works for now, but not for long and not for the future. I started this small business to help be part of the change, and make sustainable living easy and affordable! #zerowaste#environmentalism#ditchplastic#circulareconomy#dowhatsnatural
“Sensitivity to nature is not an innate attribute of indigenous peoples. It is a consequence of adaptive choices that have resulted in the development of highly specialized peripheral skills. but those choices in turn spring from a comprehensive view of nature and the universe in which man and woman are perceived as but elements inextricably linked to the whole.”⠀⠀
- Wade Davis, Shadows in the Sun: Travels to Landscapes of Spirit and Desire⠀⠀
Our vision at EcoHuman Health is to embrace our relationship with our environment - inner and outer. ⠀⠀
By expanding health beyond the kitchen and gym, beyond nutrition and fitness, diet and exercise, to factors that humans truly need to thrive. ⠀⠀
And at the same time, recognize that our anthropocentric perspective is getting in the way of both the health of the environment and our health. ⠀⠀
The irony is that when we embrace inner and outer ecology as vital, we honour nature and we end up better off ourselves. ⠀⠀
Live by the proactive maxim: Engage Your Environment and Reach Your Potential. ⠀⠀
This is ancient wisdom but clearly supported by modern science like quantum entanglement. ⠀⠀
It’s time for us all to see the writing on the wall. It’s time for (r)evolution.

My last post was about rules of sleep hygiene that I break, so I figured I would share some of the 'rules' that do help me! And some other tidbits that help as well. I am also curious what you #ptsd folks use to improve your sleep, I would truly love to hear some new tips and tricks. Nighttime can be so awful, so right now I'm open to any help I can get 😊
🍁No TV in the bedroom. - For me the tv screen really is distracting. Sometimes I do use the tv to sleep, but it's a last resort on my bad nights and I'll move to a different room to sleep. I do keep my phone in the room, but for me that is less of a distraction than a giant tv screen. Plus I do like a dark bedroom most nights and the tv is really bright.
🍁If you're not asleep by X amount of time, get up and do something mindless. I get up and take the dog potty, tidy the living room, make a snack, some kind of chore. For me it often helps.
🍁A tv show or audio book that is interesting enough to keep me distracted, but familiar or boring enough that I don't have to know what happens next. This is ESSENTIAL for me. I basically have Bob's Burgers and New Girl on loop at my house! I also use YouTube videos with people talking about stuff. Music alone doesn't cut it, my mind is too easily distracted.
🍁Scents and objects specifically for sleep - I keep a pillow spray, essential oils with a diffuser and a lip balm I love that I mainly use at night. I have a sensitive nose, and scent tends to help keep me grounded more than other methods.
🍁Wild, huge self acceptance. - I tend to lay down with the very conscious idea that if I don't go to sleep it's ok. That wherever I am - if I end up getting pissed or anxious - it's ok. It will all pass and I'll be able to catch up another day. If I wake up from a bad nightmare I don't expect myself to go back to sleep. Bedtime is rough, man.
🍁Exercise. I totally suck at this one, but I think they're right. I tend to sleep better if I have moved my body.

Buddha Bowls are the bomb! A great way to get all the tastes, textures and food groups you need (or want) in a single, luscious, and balanced hit! Here’s a fave of mine from @minimalistbaker. It’s a hearty filling and delicious lunch that can be changed up to suit your mood, what’s in season or whatever you happen to have hanging around the house. Make sure to eat around the middle of the day. Autumn digestion can be a little fickle so eating as close to noon as possible means you’re Agni will be firing on all cylinders.
More AMAZING buddha bowl recipes in my upcoming book!

Yesterday was bittersweet. Nature enthusiasts, Georgians, and the coastal community lost Cornelia Walker Bailey, age 72. She passed on Sunday.
She spent her life raising awareness about about the historic Black community of Hog Hammock. In addition to, being a prominent figure and advocate for the preservation of Sapelo Island and it's rich Geechee culture.
I visited in August 2015 for my birthday, I stayed at her rental property. I talked to her and learned so much about the history of the island, beyond what my research yielded. She told me I was always welcomed back because of my appreciation of the island and my love of nature.
I learned of this amazing Georgia history several years ago when McIntosh County tried to levy astronomical property taxes on the residents as a way to displace them from the generational land of their ancestors.
I hate that I didn't make a return trip sooner to see her again. I take comfort that I was privileged to learn from this amazing woman. May her legacy and work to preserve the history, culture, and land live for generations to come. 📷 credit: Mrs. Bailey's photo from BrunswickNews.com. All other photos are my intellectual property. .
What is the message you want to give the world? If you had to look at your life as a book with one message to communicate, what would that golden nugget be?
It feels so good to write again. Why do we deny ourselves the things we know we love? Stop letting fear get in the way of your health.
Possibly a little teaser sneak peak of what's next in my world 😜
Oil-free, lime drenched potatoes seasoned with curry powder, cayenne and paprika ✨💛
This is one of my favourite go-to recipes during the week when I'm craving spicy, healing comfort food! Served with a big salad and homemade chunky salsa for dipping = yum!👌🏻😋To optimize my healing, I keep the plant-based fats in my diet low. Most days, I'm fat free and on other days, I will enjoy a little avocado (which is super healing and an amazing #lifechangingfood ), tahini or coconut oil. It took a little while to adjust to eating this way but now I actually feel my best eating less fat! According to @medicalmedium, lowering fat helps thin your blood which facilitates cleansing and also gives your liver a break to help it heal. When the liver is healing, you are able to detox. This allows the liver to release a lot of gunk which is expelled through elimination channels and helps clean things up! I know it can be tough to reduce fat from your diet at first. A little creativity in the kitchen can help a lot. It's super delicious recipes like this one that make keeping your fat low much easier! Many thanks to @chitterlove for sharing this on her Instagram page...it's a keeper! ❤Simply drench potatoes in lime juice, sprinkle curry powder, paprika and cayenne to taste then roast for about 20 minutes at 400. I love this with the delicious and super clean @medicalmedium ketchup recipe, or a chunky homemade salsa pictured here (recipe: blend roasted red peppers, roasted and fresh cherry tomatoes, fat-free basil pesto, paprika, cayenne in a blender and serve😊) I'm always amazed that healing meals can taste this good. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! ❤
My mom used to tell us kids, "Go out and play." As a single mother with five of us under the age of eight, as we grew up her kind suggestion was made with perhaps a bit of desperation. With a gully, a stream, a ditch and a neighborhood full of hollers and shouts during kick the can and steal the flag, we stayed outside until the smell of dinner sent us racing home. My mom's words got me outside where my soul put down roots in the soil around campfires roasting weenies and smores, reached heavenwards as I stared at the stars, grew spiritual branches (as I sawed others down to build forts. Sorry brother Lindsley), and sent forth divinely feminine blossoms that somehow got crushed along the way. But seasons come and seasons go, and here I am a grandma who still hears the call, "Go outside and play." So I do. And life is beautiful. Thanks Mom @shirleymckaybritsch
So I am doing another probiotic experiment... and this time it involves my darling but neurotic dog Zoey.
I've heard before that dog gut species and human gut species only have about 30% in common.
But that's not going to stop me from playing around with giving Zoey our Mood Boosting Probiotic.
I am insatiably curious and also would love to help my dog chill out.
She is a nervous pee-er. And she just gets very nervous about life in general. 😅😁😆 So today, I served up a bowl of cooled oatmeal with a probiotic mixed in.
I keep having people message me and tell me about how they love the chilled-out experience they are having from our probiotic. It's not a huge shift but it's noticeable nonetheless.
So... follow along as Zoey gets a daily chill pill. ❤️ 🐶 🤞🏻
sometimes you really don’t realize how out of tune you are with everything until you’re grounded again 🍂🌞 a walk in the drumlin was just what a needed to clear my head... the fresh fall air was so nice. it’s impossible to feel negative on such a beautiful day 🏞
"[That] when you go out into the woods and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You appreciate it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree.
The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying “You’re too this, or I’m too this.” That judging mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.". —Ram Dass
