Who missed the 'looking good! Not so much...' posts?? Well I did! And tonight we're covering something I haven't covered before, and that's spotting! This might generate some discussion, so I will preface with saying that that's what works for me and feel I can effectively spot the flyer and keep them safe. I will go into the details as to why. In the looking good picture, I like to be close to the flyer. My hips are literally a hair from them without touching them. I have one hand hovering around the shoulder, that's to block the flyer potentially going forward over the base's head, and the other hand around the far hip blocking the flyer going away from me. If they come toward me, my torso will block them. If it's too wobbly, I will use my hip hand and squeeze them toward my torso to freeze them over the base's power line. In this spot, I am using the base's power line. They are the primary spotter. I'm just helping the base spot, or base, over their line of power. I have no interest in lifting the flyer of the base nor supporting their entire weight. It's not healthy and not necessary, unless you like showing off by lifting flyers off to show how strong you are... The trick is to use the base. Bring it over a point where they are effective. This way a smaller person can easily spot a much bigger person if they are close and react quickly.

Now the not so good pictures. Top right is easy, I'm just too far and ineffective. And probably any attempt to spot will tweak my back. The lower right will probably create some discussion... And that's the platter spot many see. Platter spot is awesome, but not for a static front plank. I will only do platter spot if there's a pop landing in front plank.
