He said, "My son, temptation is one thing that I've defeated
Listen to me, I want a single bill from you
Nothin' less, nothin' more"
I told him I ain't have it and closed my door
Tell me how much a dollar cost?
The darkness crumbles away.
It is the same old druid Time as ever,
Only a live thing leaps my hand,
A queer sardonic rat,
As I pull the parapet’s poppy
To stick behind my ear.
Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew
Your cosmopolitan sympathies.
Now you have touched this English hand
You will do the same to a German
Soon, no doubt, if it be your pleasure
To cross the sleeping green between.
It seems you inwardly grin as you pass
Strong eyes, fine limbs, haughty athletes,
Less chanced than you for life,
Bonds to the whims of murder,
Sprawled in the bowels of the earth,
The torn fields of France.
the sun shone ferociously
yet it lacked
the numbness of the moon
that allowed us
to segregate ourselves
from our savaged world
too much shine
can blind the righteous
too much numbness
can paralyse the soul
When you see someone on the telly and remember you once had a pic taken with them. 😂 Well, Ma Mary from #derrygirls (aka Tara Lynne O'Neill) performed my wee poem 'Awakening' at Queens University a few years ago as part of the Reading & Writing for Peace project run by QUB and the Community Relations Council. It was weird hearing someone perform your work but pretty cool too. Here we are after the performance (there were other poets and actors performing their work too). #poet#poetry#actor#belfast#writer#writerslife#performance#creatives#northernireland#media#tvseries#tv
I stumbled upon this broken chair sitting in the middle of the park and couldn’t help but to see such beauty within it. I immediately had to capture a few photos to prove that even when you’re broken, you’re still beautiful.
