After losing his wife in a car crash almost exactly a year prior to competing, Steiner recalled that he had previously told his wife that he would win the Olympics. With her gone, and left with the motivation to do what he told her, he hit a huge PR, clean and jerking 8 kilos more than the Russian Chigishev for the gold. In a huge release of emotion, Steiner breaks down, filled with sheer joy and utter sadness. It is amazing what emotion can do. This is one of the great moments of our sport.

Encouraging Knee Valgus
➡️Great post and important concept here by my guys @theprehabguys - Valgus happens.
📝The notion that knee valgus is always bad must be put to rest. It's a natural part of movement. The key is just controlling it. And when you avoid it altogether, how do you ever get better at controlling it?
🏋🏽Yes, knee valgus is one of the more common positions of an ACL injury and it's probably best to avoid a valgus position when teaching landing mechanics. However, exposure to knee valgus is an absolute must in the grand scheme of things. It is a position that athletes will undoubtedly find themselves in.
🐥The best athletes use some of this position to cut and change direction. It's science. When you internally rotate the femur you're prestretching the glute- this is absolutely necessary to move laterally. If the foot is wider than the hip and you need to push away from that hip ➡️ valgus. Therefore, it is helpful to teach this motion in training and rehab.
🤖The curtsy lunge involves dynamically coming in and out of hip internal rotation and adduction. Learn to control the pelvic drop on top of the femur during the curtsey lunge... and then get out of it with hip abductors, external rotators and extensors. Those are the power houses of the lower extremity.
🔋The transverse step up starts with pure hip rotation and minimizes any transverse loads on the knee. Control the pelvis on top of the femur. Unlike the valgus step down, this can be loaded to a greater degree.
🎉Teach proper lower extremity alignment and cutting, but also teach how to move in and out of valgus. Use the glutes. Stretch and load the hip external rotators. Prepare the athlete for the demands of the sport.

Hit a PR on my #SquatClean today at 275lbs and failed both attempts at 295lbs. I hit 295lbs on a messy looking #PowerClean last year, but I have been working on form getting to extension at the hip and mobility in the rack. Which both can still be improved, but what I see the most here is I am actually pulling high, maybe too high, and not getting under the bar fast enough. Mr. Mettle here. Ok not really homestead related but Mrs. Mettle was baking something fierce the past couple days. With the recent snow fall, there was no work outside. So to burn all these decadent calories I consumed, that meant dusting off the plates and going back to some #olylifting . I haven't lifted heavy in awhile nor am I a super strong athlete but this is a #personalrecord for me! The #powerclean is my favorite lift but while I had the weight up, might as well put the weight overhead! I had to fight to keep the weight from falling behind me! 180lbs/82kg

All round good session today. Me being a big believer of finding wins wherever possible I managed to come away with 3 ‘PBs’ in total. Cleaned 120kg+ 3 times in one session, 100kg split clean (as shown in the last upload), 121kg clean. Clearly felt confident as I went for a 130kg clean in my way to my clean pulls but narrowly missed it.
