Let's talk shoulders and feet in the deadlift. The bar should be directly above the midfoot with shoulders ever so slightly ahead of the bar on the set up. This has been demonstrated repeatedly to be the position of optimal power production. In part due to firm footing, in part due to optimizing positioning of the latissimus dorsi muscle strength in relation to the loaded bar. The reasons go on, and on and the anecdotal evidence is overwhelming when watching elite lifters set up for their lifts.
Consistent set up is something that is constantly a work in progress. It is very rare that I get two consecutive lifts that feel or look the same. This video is no exception. Can you spot any differences between lifts?
