"I think sexy is a grown-up word to describe a person who’s confident that she is already exactly who she was made to be. A sexy woman knows herself and she likes the way she looks, thinks, and feels. She doesn’t try to change to match anybody else. She’s a good friend to herself—kind and patient. And she knows how to use her words to tell people she trusts about what’s going on inside of her—her fears and anger, love, dreams, mistakes, and needs. When she’s angry, she expresses her anger in healthy ways. When she’s joyful, she does the same thing. She doesn’t hide her true self because she’s not ashamed. She knows she’s just human—exactly how God made her and that’s good enough. She’s brave enough to be honest and kind enough to accept others when they’re honest. When two people are sexy enough to be brave and kind with each other, that’s love. Sexy is more about how you feel than how you look. Real sexy is letting your true self come out of hiding and find love in safe places. That kind of sexy is good, really good, because we all want and need love more than anything else.”
- “Oh. I thought sexy meant pretty.“
-“Hmm, nope. Pretty is another thing that can be sold. What and who is pretty is also something those people in boardrooms decide. It’s always changing. So if what you want to be is pretty, you’ll have to keep changing yourself constantly—and eventually you won’t know who you are. What I want to be, girls, is beautiful. Beautiful means ‘full of beauty.’ Beautiful is not about how you look on the outside. Beautiful is about what you’re made of. Beautiful people spend time discovering what their idea of beauty on this earth is. They know themselves well enough to know what they love, and they love themselves enough to fill up with a little of their particular kind of beauty each day.”

I mentioned a few posts ago that I’m making hair products with plant-based ingredients. 🍃🌿🌱I have a secret regarding this, one that makes me feel both like a rebel and a fake, but I hope once I explain you’ll understand where I’m coming from. 💓
There is a huge push right now in the beauty industry for “clean”, “natural”, “green” and “non-toxic” products, without “chemicals”. And I get it - as consumers, it’s incredibly difficult to rely on cosmetic companies to keep us safe, but it’s even harder to research every ingredient on all the products we use. Think about every product you used on your body today, including toothpaste, shampoo, styling products, and makeup. I use about 19 products in the course of a day! 😯🤭
My secret is that I do not use only “natural” products. In fact, 90% of my beauty routine is “dirty” 😲 But see, this verbiage is a huge turn-off to me. I don’t want to feel bad for using regular, non-organic cosmetics. I don’t like the words “clean” vs “dirty” in regards to my beauty routine,💄 or even food,🍎 for that matter. Yes, there have been studies done on many ingredients but the results of some of these studies have also been blown out of proportion. Not all, but some of this is just marketing. Like all things in life, we must do our own research and figure out what works best for us as individuals.🧘🏻♀️
Truth Serum’s air dry product will be plant-based, gluten-free, vegan, paraben and sulfate-free. There will be people who seek these types of products, and I am truly happy to serve them. There will be people who don’t give a rat’s hiney (that is a word, right?) about the ingredients and just want to know that it works (and I’m going to do my damndest to make that a reality!) And there will be people like me, who are intrigued by the possibilities of a plant-powered hair product.
I want to know - what are your views on “clean” or “green” beauty? Are there ingredients you avoid at all costs? Do you think it’s a marketing ploy? Share your POV in the comments!
