Do you see it?
...Can't get over these amazing rock formations.
It is rightly said that nature has music for those who listen and art for those who can see. It's the little things...often overlooked in the hassle. Because thats how we have unfortunately become, to be so busy and involved all the time. We have lost the art to just sit back, breathe, appreciate beauty of the world and just take it in...Everytime I go out there, I feel like taking it all in, remembering it all. Like a song, a vivid dream, like face of a loved one...maybe places like these do make you feel familiar and at home?
📍 Elephant Rock, Taranaki, New Zealand
There are certain landmarks that are iconic... the leaning tower of Pisa, the colosseum, the Eiffel tower.... you mention them and people know exactly where you've been and they have a clear picture in their mind of what it looks like, swarmed with travellers and more goPros than you can imagine. These iconic places are on most peoples' bucket list and we all long to visit them and capture that Instagram worthy picture to break the internet. Despite the popular iconic places, there are always some hidden gems which make you feel like you've really reached the heart of that place, uncovered its inner secrets and tapped into its untouched beauty... elephant rock in Taranaki, New Zealand is one of those places for me. It's not visible from the road and requires a small fifteen minute walk along slippery rocks and sludgey black sand beach to reach it, standing tall and strong like the animal it was named after. It is hidden, only resembling an elephant from certain angles, and has become an iconic landmark for me in my homeland. It is still largely untouched and is never overrun by tourists, you're likely to see the locals walking their dogs in their gummies and going about their business, with barely a goPro in sight.
