We spent New Years Eve in Chiang Mai and watching thousands of lanterns light up the sky. We also spent it avoiding said fiery lanterns from floating into our heads and watching them catch fire in trees. Ours did neither :)
My travel misconceptions series is back! .............................................
A Thailand edition is now up on the blog (link in bio🔝), with details on what you should and shouldn’t expect with your first trip to the country. 🇹🇭✌🏻 There are a lot of misconceptions around this popular Southeast Asian destination, make sure you know what’s up. 🌊☀️
➡️ LET ME KNOW - have you been to Thailand? Is there anything that surprised you about the country?
I grew up next to the ocean and it became so essential in my life, the beach was the place where I always felt free and secure! 🙉🙊
When the things didn't go as I planned, there I was in my little temple staring at the sea... 💭🌊
Who else gets introspective and contemplates looking at the sea? 🙋⏪
Had the most fun today swinging from an almost-about-to-break rope !
We were initially driving through the mountains on our way to a temple overlooking Chiang Mai, but instead got distracted by a nice waterfall where at the very bottom was hidden this little pool.
I don't need much more to have fun like a kid. Just wished the water was a little warmer though 😊
Three key takeaways from this trip:
1) First impression is too early to create the last impression. There's so much more to people than what they give at face value. And you do just fine without a common language.
2) Life is 20% what happens to you and 80% how you react to it. The first step to overcome a challenge is to stay calm and optimistic
3) Life is all about perspective. And there's no endpoint of learning. The more people you meet, the more you learn and broaden your perspective.
To be able to feel one with nature, and not separate. Sun and sand, flowers and freedom. Bamboo island is a white sand island with turquoise water and a clear sky. The heart here forgets the past and future, just remains in the moment.
And 'sawasdee' is how Thai people greet, followed by a finishing participle to make it sound polite. Kha for females and Khrap for males.
So, Sawasdee Kha, Thailand, you are beautiful 💚
Let go of the stories... and anything that questions the validity of your vison and goals. All is needed really is more practice. More belief. More time. More patience. Be courageous and commit. 🌟 📸 @actionhiro
Making the most out of our time and having more productive mornings in general in this new year as we try to see all this beautiful island has to offer 🌴
Less nights out at the bar and more early mornings in the ocean is obviously a much healthier lifestyle but also one of the best ways to stretch out your budget if your travelling long term! 💸☺️ p.s. loving our bamboo straw that we picked up at @vibeasia while in Siem Reap a few weeks back!
Shrouded in the countryside of Phetchaburi, Riverbed Cabin Resort’s cabins are Scandinavian minimalism at it finest. Spend your weekend getaway waking up to yoga on the riverbank, swimming in the large pool that looks out onto the river and dining at the poolside restaurant. This is a real lush weekend escape from Bangkok. #bkescapes
What a privilege it is to come face to face with these beautiful creatures. Mae Kam is one of the lucky ones. She is living out her days in a natural environment @beeselephants Interactions with volunteers are on her terms. In Thailand there are over 4000 registered captive elephants that suffer everyday in the tourism industry -being used for entertainment and trekking.
The least enjoyable part for us when planning/booking a vacation to a new destination is the research part. And travelling with a baby does not make the job any easier.. Searching tons of websites, blogs, reviews about the best hotels, the best activities, the best restaurants, the most child-friendly places, beaches........This part for us is tiring..... We want all the INSIDER TIPS from EXPERT LOCALS in one place!!! That's how we came up with the idea for KohPlanner!!! One place where you can find the best activities, the best restaurants, the most family- friendly, travel and destination tips from locals, the best deals.......everything you want to know about Koh Samui in one place; knowing that all businesses on our page have been carefully selected by us; because we believe our customers deserve the best!!
All this will be coming soon...so stay tuned!!! What is for you the most annoying part about planning/booking your vacation? 😡
And the most enjoyable? 😃
Pushing boundaries and challenging myself has become an addiction. When quitting my engineering job 2 years ago to become a filmmaker, this has become more true than ever. The past few months, I have received so many messages from friends and acquaintances saying words like « you are so lucky » or « you are living the dream, I wish I could travel like you » and I just want to say: Stop! Each one of us is master of our own life. Luck does exist for everyone, you’ve just got to work your bum off for it! I’m only lucky to have made that decision. Thanks @blue.immersion.freediving for helping me become a baby freediver, i have learnt so much 🙏🏽 | #underwaterlife | 📷 : @emmaceolin
