DAY 16 + 17: HB To Me.
Mozzies ate us alive. Still no reception. Still leaking fuel. Time to speed up the drive home.
First stop | William creek, SA. Phoned home from a solar panelled payphone. Had a cold one at the local pub. Admired the rockets at memorial park. The rocket was launched at Woomera in September 1970 and after failing to reach orbit landed at Anna Creek Station.
Second stop | Lake Eyre, SA. Nearly 15 metres below sea level. The lowest part of Australia. Very salty.
Final stop | Coward springs CP, SA. More natural hot springs arising from the Artesian Basin. This ones a little cooler at 29 degrees.
Sunday. Birthday. Yayday!
We checked out the restored engine drivers cabin along the Old Ghan railway. Admired some the string of springs, including "The Bubbler". Checked out the interesting pieces at Mutonia Sculpture Park, SA. Stopped in at the Marree roadhouse. Found reception at Lyndhurst - hallelujah! Then called it a day at Leigh Creek, SA. This place was so eerie. A former coal mining town that felt like it was deserted.
