I've been coming out to this beach for 35 years now. My dad grew up just across the bridge and his parents continued to live here until they passed, my grandfather just one year and six days ago. It's rather strange to be here and not be able to visit him, but he lived a full life.
Ronald "Curly" Beers (Feb 19, 1927 - Jan 13, 2017) was a sailor, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, scout leader, WWII vet, and computer pioneer.
He was born into poverty in Upstate New York, but through a "big brothers" style organization was befriended by Tom Watson, who would later become the CEO of IBM. I've been told that Tom bought my grandfather his first pair of shoes. After eighth grade my grandfather dropped out of school, lied about his age, enlisted in the Merchant Marine Corps, and was sent to the Mediterranean. He was one of only a few to survive when his ship was torpedoed in the Greek Isles. Back in the States he turned his eighth grade education into a 34 year career at IBM where he helped put men on the moon and was involved with the development of IBM's first PC. He and my grandmother we're married for more than sixty years and they had six sons.
He was grouch. But he was a lovely grouch. And I miss him.
Remembering you, Grandpa.
Japp! Fredag minsann!
For a long time, I felt like I had failed because I quit my stable corporate job. It took a while for me to change that mindset because I had been so stubborn and set in my old ways and mindset. When I finally let go of the "societal norms" that I was no longer pursuing and enjoying my life all over the world, I felt like I was doing something right. I celebrated my life because I knew I was doing everything I could to make it my best life. I wasn't going to wait until I retire 30 years from now to find myself with a bad knee or hip limiting what I could do in life. .
Celebrate what you have and so much more will come to you because you are at peace with where you are in life and take the weight off your shoulders. It doesn't mean that I don't have doubts sometimes, because I do. It's just a matter of having a louder voice cheering you on instead of bringing you down. Are you a negative Nancy or a positive Polly?

Engine swap was a success, this is my old 2009 6L V8 from my 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado heading to the scrapper. Newer one is from a 3500 1 ton, so needed a few tweeks...adjusting mounting brackets, manifold, etc but so far so good!
Another week down at my new job in New Zealand. I'm starting to settle in now after debating quitting last week to go traveling again. I'm still planning to go to South America for a while, but will be waiting 12 months or so to see how things go here. Time will tell.
hello sweethearts, it has been incredibly loooooong day for me. I told you yesterday that in the early #morning (that was still night actually) I left to my next destination. I had to wake up at 3:30am, and around 4 to walk with my suitcase on the empty streets of sleeping kandy till the #train station. 6,5hours on the seat with the pretty #windowview that you see on #thepicoftheday and I reached the capital of #southern province #galle . even a bit earlier than expected but already with zero energy. thats why my first southern nap happened directly on the train station. but it were just peanuts in comparison to upcoming challenge: I had to find the place of my host ryan that is located in the jungle 10km from the city. the ride in the local overcrowded bus (it was school time) I still survived ok. but afterwards after 1,5h strolls in the jungle greens I understood that I got lost. yes, with suitcase (not backpack) under 33℃ burning sun and without balance and signal (!) on my phone. what a fun, i thought! I was almost close just to sit down on my suitcase and cry #ontheroad : nothing worked out today, I'm just lost #streetbum middle of nowhere. the asphalt was bumpy, suitcase with every meter heavier and the sun burnt a hole in my head already. the rests of energy were completely gone, I barely could keep walking. but there is always a light at the end of tunnel: in my case too, light came personified as manager from the big german hotel nearby. the smiling guy found me when I was already preparing to nap on the grass out of pure despair and frustration. my angel in business casual arranged everything: he contacted my friend, got the accurate direction and ordered tuktuk. just simple things but I was so incredibly thankful, he appeared so on time! few hours after I already as clean, refreshed and cheerful #dharmabum was sitting with ryan's granny and drinking afternoon tea trying to remember if today was real or maybe just a bad dream. this was my first maybe not really #perfectmorning in galle, but still with quite nice and pleasant #happyend ❤🙏 #wanderlust#travelnotes#vagabond#nomadnotes#landscapelovers#sealove#seainsideme
