En perfekt innan-träning eller orka-släpa-sig-hem-från-jobbet-i-snöstormen-smoothie 🙌🏻🍊 AFTERNOON BOOST - a lovely orange chia smoothie with raw vanilla and almond milk

One of the popular skincare remedies flying about is the use of lemons for fading hyperpigmentation, getting rid of acne, improving the appearance of stretch marks etc
Lemon works because it contains vitamin c which is great for the skin as well as alpha hydroxyl acids which serves as exfoliants and encourage cell renewal
Lemon juice is highly acidic with a ph of 2 whereas the skin has a ph of between 5.5 - 6.5 which makes it slightly acidic and must be kept within this range so as not to disrupt the acid mantle of the skin. This acid mantle is what protects the skin against different forms of microorganisms and when damaged makes the skin dry and easily irritated
No two lemons have the same acid content because of variation of species, level of ripeness, environmental factors etc. so in actual fact you never really know what you are applying and to what extent the damage can go
Lemons contain psoralens which when exposed to the sun can burn the skin leading to a condition called phytophotodermatitis (PPD) this appears as rashes and discolorations along the same spot where you were applying the lemon, obviously on a dark mark or hyperpigmentation. Meaning, it makes the condition worse
These phototoxic compounds can be extracted during production of citrus oils, that is store bought, legit lemon oils and not diy extracted oils
Lemons may contain ingredients that seem ready made for skin but are too unpredictable to gamble with.
When life gives you lemons, do not put them on your skin, make lemonade and make everybody happy
What to do:
Vitamin c is very important in skincare and if I am clamouring not to get it from lemons, I should provide an alternative;
Purchase 20% vitamin c serums to fade hyperpigmentation and glow your skin and incase you want to DIY, purchase pure L-ascorbic acid powder to create your own serum with addition of vitamin e and ferulic acid (my favourite)☺ I am quite sure @the_healthplace_abuja can hook you up with pure L-ascorbic powder too
@skin101ng please take note
Does an overabundance of holiday treats have you craving something green? You'll love this week's fertility food, Swiss chard. This leafy green is an excellent source of iron—just one cup of steamed chard has four grams! And it contains vitamin C, which is crucial for helping your body absorb all that iron. Since iron deficiency has been linked to ovulation issues, it's important to make sure you're getting enough of this blood-building mineral. Like spinach and kale, Swiss chard also provides the body with antioxidants that can protect eggs and sperm from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. And it's easy to prepare!
